As soon as Willem van Rossum was created cardinal on the 27th of November 1911, he needed official photographs to promote his public image. The official Vatican photographer Felici got the first assignment to make a thousand pictures in 1912. Being a Redemptorist, Van Rossum made sure that on the wall a portrait of Saint Alphonsus de Liguori could be seen.
This picture is probably taken at the same time, in the same room. The photograph bears the Cardinal's graceful signature.
The next one, which is used to cover Van Rossum's abituary card, is from a much later date, probably ca. 1929.
